A big mistake that many founders make: keeping their idea a secret for too long.
The story goes as follows:
If you left instructions for your idea on Tim Cook’s Desk, it would end up in the trash can.
Y-Combinator is a good example of this phenomenon. The accelerator literally hosts conferences teaching other competitors to copy the Y-Combinator model. Yet no one is as successful as Sam Altman and his team.
WHY?!?
The reason: passion. The truth is that no one else cares about you and your brilliant idea. Use that to your advantage as long as you can. Work harder & care more than anyone else. As a startup, that is your competitive advantage.
Never be afraid to share your idea, you never know what will come of it.
