Throughout my years of working at the Farmers Market, I always wore a fanny pack.
Yeah — it looked kinda funny. But in truth, it was the best thing that I could be doing, perhaps without even knowing it.
I was doing the little things that made the biggest difference.
White-glove your customers for as long as you can.
That is your advantage as a startup — be small.
I could have hired another person to be my cashier, but that would have been a mistake. A big one.
Each and every interaction I had with customers was an opportunity to develop a relationship and increase future LTV. As a startup, it is crucial to maximize these opportunities.
Small startups are best able to “white-glove” customers and enhance the UX. That is your competitive advantage, you can do things that don’t scale. Though, sometimes, you have to get creative and start doing weird things, perhaps that do not look pretty — like wear a fanny pack.
