A few months ago, I made the pledge to start making reading/listening to books part of my weekly routine.

I did it publicly, via this blog: https://gonen.blog/reading-books

Since, I’ve done a pretty good job keeping up. I have finished nearly a book a week.

Do you read? If so, what? Has reading long-form text become a lost piece of culture and learning? What will the consequences be?

I have found audiobooks to be a great way to consume lots of information quickly.

The common criticism I get when I tell people that I listen to audiobooks is that “how do you retain the information? It’s not the same?!!”

a) it is important to understand who is criticizing you and why they are doing it.

These people do not read many books. They probably wish they did.

b) If I was restricted to reading paper books, I’d never read. How do I know that? I didn’t read long form books for years.

Audiobooks have 10x’d my consumption pace because they capture dead time throughout the day.

Something is better than nothing, at least to me.
