“I want to learn to code”

Everyone nowadays wants to learn to code. But what does that even mean? The problem with that statement is that “coding” is not a task that can simply be completed. No. Coding is a general term used to refer to a variety of different skills.

The problem with asking how to learn to code is that the statement is far too general.

The better question depends on your goals. Here are some different scenarios:

#1 What languages do I need to learn so that I can build my iphone application?

#2 What languages should I learn so that I can best become a project manager?

#3 What language can help me build a slack bot?

Even these questions are far too general and even asking these questions may be a sign of your misunderstanding of the work ahead.

So ask the question, but with a better purpose in mind. It will help you get real results.
