In the “more is more society” that we live in today, incentives are often misaligned in that we are encouraged to consume, create, etc. just for the sake of it. We are falsely prompted to buy more, do more, write more, eat more, etc…but for what?
Is more more? Always?
A common critique of my writing is that many of my essays are quite short. For the record, I do not really care about that remark. I do not really write for other people – only my own mind and training. But is word count really the problem? Why is that the metric?
In the perfect essay, I think I manage to say the most in the least amount of space.
