People Matter, Interview with Google Employee

I have always said that I am most grateful for the extremely awesome people that have come into my life.

Looking back, I will always remember the unique individuals who took chances on me, for whatever reason, and made an incredible impact.

Knowing that, I make a conscious effort to surround myself with interesting people. People passionate about what they do. People who are determined to get what they want. And people who care.

It is really easy to get caught up in the “things.” In the moment, the materials can seem super impactful. But in the long run, all of these “things” are just “things.” They rarely appear in memories. They are transitive.

The people are able to change lives and impact the world. I am not sure what I will be doing 20 years from now. But I believe that if I continue to surround myself with incredible people, I will always be fine. The people are the difference.

I want to work with people who hold this same mantra in mind. Work becomes 10x easier, more enjoyable, and more productive when you are working with people who you get along with. Double that when you can form friendships with the people you work with. That can be a competitive advantage ~ teams that gel extremely well together can move faster.

I like working with people who are super passionate about what they do. It can literally be anything, as long as their is some fiery spirit in there.

how do you tell if someone is passionate?

You just can. There is no metric for it. It is in the way they talk about what they do and their vision of the world.
