A few years back, I published an essay about water cups. This essay is me revisiting those thoughts.
My claim is simple and starts with the notion that restaurants who provide large water cups are capitalizing on an easy-opportunity to delight their customers. I make the jump that businesses should do the same…startups should find low hanging opportunities to surprise and provide value to their users that require low marginal costs and bandwidth, but still are memorable experiences.
I think the business world is full of free water cup opportunities yet so many of us fail to think about the details and instead the larger picture.
We end up with small water cups which completely ruin the meal for someone having to get up every other minute to refill.
Think about how your customers consumer your product…where are the water cups?
