Urgency

Every so often, I am dramatically reminded of the importance of the limited time we have available on earth.

Every so often, I am dramatically reminded of the importance of the limited time we have available on earth.

It happens after I read a story, hear a severe incident or just see something out of the blue. I remember how lucky I am to be alive, to be healthy and to have people who care about me.

It is so easy to take all of that for granted. Our perspective is incredibly limited by the people we spend time with and the things we grew up with. It is near impossible for us humans to be able to empathize with people with completely different perspectives.

The bubble effect is extremely dangerous and I believe all of us, to some extent, have fallen victim to it.

It is this realization that drives me with urgency.

It is this realization that there is just so much left to do, to explore, to see, to build, etc. before I run out of time.

And I do not want to run out of time anytime soon.

I am not saying urgency to work work work. I think that is flawed.

I think the urgency, rather, is simply to make the most out of each and every day. Whether that is sleeping all day or going out with friends or writing code or working on a project. Whatever it is that I see as the “best, highest leverage use of my time.” I want to do that.

I bring this attitude with me into 2018 — to have the best year of my life. I hope you can too.
