You come and pay an exorbitant amount of money to go to college and start using fancy words (like exorbitant). What do you reasonably expect to get out of it? What is the return on your investment going to be?
The answer, one that many (including myself) have spent a long and hard time thinking about is…it depends.
WHAT?!?!
No really. It completely depends. It depends on what you want out of life, what you expect to be, what your opportunity cost is, how much faster you are learning, who you meet, how you spend your time, what you eat, what sports you play, what your values are, what you grew up…etc.etc.etc.
I’m tired of these overarching claims that “college is stupid” or that “you need to go to college.” The answer is not binary. There is no universal solution for education. There is no clear “winner.”
