The old cliche is that you can learn something from everyone, but in reality, we find ourselves questioning whether or not that can really be true. There must be some people we meet that have nothing new to offer…Right?
I actually do believe in the cliche. I think that you really can learn something from everyone. The thing is, often times when we think of “learn” we focus on what we learn from others. I think that in many conversations we also learn a ton about ourselves.
There are these basic two scenarios when you talk to people.
The first is you agree with them.
The second is that you disagree with them.
How do you learn when you are in the latter situation?
You either a) pick up a new perspective and perhaps change your mind about a position or thought or b) you figure out why you believe so hard in your side of the story.
Regardless, you are better off.
