Though I think that social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Snap, Insta, etc.) have damaging effects to human psychology, I do not particularly agree with all of the outrage in the community today.
Specifically, I have trouble empathizing with the following argument that “FB is an evil machine that is ruining all of our lives.” There have been numerous articles, tweets, etc. effectively relaying this message. And while I could say that I do think social media is an addiction, etc. I do not believe that statement to be true.
What I find most difficult to agree with about that is that you, the user, has complete control. You can get out of FB’s ring.
Just do not go on Facebook.
Remove the app.
Block the website.
Delete your account.
Boom. Your problem is solved ?
Of course, there are still macro-effects to this social media platform (politics, etc.) but people complain so much about what it does to them. Just stop. Stop using it.
Is it that hard?
