Understanding Gen Z

Generation Z, or the group of people born since the mid 1990s, will come to be one of the most important and powerful consumer segments in the world.

By 2020, Generation Z will account for 40% of all consumers and that number is only looking to grow. They represent a large chunk of the marketplace and influence billions of dollars already spent in the economy.

Clearly, they are important.

Here are 3 Things You Should Understand About Appealing To Gen Z:

 1. Low Attention Span

Gen Z has an attention span of roughly eight seconds. To get your message across, you will need to be concise and to the point.

Brands and companies will need to understand this to deliver messages that stick.

2. Influencers are Important

Another important thing to understand about Generation Z is that influencers play an important role in their lives.

These “influencers” are internet celebrities that actively connect with their audiences through popular vehicles like Youtube and Twitter.

Never before have we seen consumers connect at such a scale with large celebrities and personalities. This will come to be really important as brands pivot to branded content with influencers.

3. Social Impact

Gen Z cares a lot about social impact. 60 percent of Gen Z wants their jobs to impact the world, and 26% are active volunteers.

Brands should pay attention to these metrics as they build campaigns that appeal to the different emotions of Gen Z.
