Directness

One quality I highly value in a teammate or leader is the ability to communicate clearly. I prefer working with “truth-seekers,” people who embrace ego, but prioritize valuable answers over personal pride.

I like direct people. People who tell me how it is – the good, the bad, and the ugly. I like working with people who understand that nothing is personal, and that being kind is about helping the team win, not one particular agenda.

I want to work with people who have diverse interests but share this type of fierceness.

This ability to be direct in your communication is increasingly rare.

I think lots of people say they prefer “directness” over fluff but the reality is that the business world, in particular, is full of nonsense. The finance industry is acronyms, powerpoints, and jargon. Where is the directness? Where is the honesty?

Few people say what they want. The result? Few people actually get what they want.
